The User.dat file
The User.dat file is a part of the Windows 95 Registry. This file stores user specific information such as desktop settings and user logon information. If the user is on a network, these settings are reflected in user profiles. Every time Windows 95 starts, a backup of the User.dat file is automatically made and named User.da0. This ensures that the latest user settings are saved. The User.dat file may be copied onto diskette and transferred to a different computer.
